He didn’t even want the job in the first place and has never done anything remotely on the scale. He’s all over the place – when he remembers to turn up for work! And who has to cover for him? Who has to put in the hours, teach him his craft, patch up his mistakes, deal with his tantrums and get the job done? Who? That’s right – like any big project, it’s the little guys, the professionals, the men who’ve been doing this kind of thing all their lives… They’re the ones that are actually going to have to make it happen. As for gratitude, they’ll be lucky if he even remembers to pay them!

Richard II ( The Old Vic ) - Play
Richard II, believing he's king by divine right, is confronted by rebellion. He becomes isolated, with a shrinking band of supporters, and detached from the country and its people. Shakespeare's play questions the meaning of the 'monarchy' if a divinely appointed soverign can be pushed aside, and a man with no such claim replaces him in power. Kevein Spacey makes his Shakesperian debut in the UK as the doomed king coming to terms with a life stripped of authority. This is also the first time that Trevor Nunn has directed this celebrated play and follows his Oliver Award winning re-investigation of Hamlet at the Old Vis last year. The Old Vic's version of Richard II is not a traditional staging of the play but a contemporary one. Please also note that there is no official age limit but we would not advise customers to bring children under 5 years old.
